The Feast of Saint Nicholas at the Church of Saint Nicholas, Piraeus

Saint Nicholas, patron of seafarers, was kept on 6 December 2025 at his church above the harbour of Piraeus — the festal liturgy and procession of the parish of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, with the Navy's warships opened at the quay across the same days.

The Feast of Saint Nicholas at the Church of Saint Nicholas, Piraeus is the annual celebration on 6 December of the fourth-century bishop venerated across the Orthodox world as the patron of seafarers. The Church of Saint Nicholas, a parish of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus under Metropolitan Seraphim, stands close to the commercial port, its domes historically visible from vessels approaching the quay. The building was raised in the last decade of the nineteenth century on a site that carried a church to the saint since the 1840s.

The 2025 feast was marked by a festal liturgy and a procession of the icon, drawing city officers and members of the maritime community. The band of Piraeus accompanied the procession through the streets near the harbour. The Hellenic Navy also keeps Saint Nicholas as its patron: from 6 to 8 December, the fleet held warships open to the public at the port of Piraeus.
