Otello

The Greek National Opera presents eight performances of Robert Wilson's staging of Verdi's Otello at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, SNFCC, Athens, between 8 April and 9 May 2027, with Hovhannes Ayvazyan and Brian Jagde alternating in the title role.

Otello is a revival production by the Greek National Opera (GNO) of Verdi’s opera in a staging by Robert Wilson, given at the Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC) in Athens. The revival runs for eight performances between 8 April and 9 May 2027. Wilson’s staging — comprising his direction, sets and lighting — was first brought to the company in 2022. The SNFCC was designed by Renzo Piano.

Vassilis Christopoulos conducts the GNO’s orchestra, chorus and children’s chorus, with Nicola Panzer as revival director. The title role alternates between Hovhannes Ayvazyan and Brian Jagde across the run. Tassis Christoyannis takes Iago, Cellia Costea sings Desdemona, and Tassos Apostolou is Lodovico.

The eight performances are scheduled for 8, 11, 14, 17, 20 and 23 April and 6 and 9 May. The revival forms part of the GNO’s 2026/27 season at the Stavros Niarchos Hall.
