Greek National Opera: The Rake's Progress
The Rake's Progress is a 2027 production of Stravinsky's opera by the Greek National Opera, directed by Alexandros Efklidis and conducted by Jacques Lacombe, staged at the Stavros Niarchos Hall across five evenings from 5 to 19 March 2027.
The Rake’s Progress is Stravinsky’s only full-length opera, staged by the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Hall across five evenings on 5, 10, 13, 17 and 19 March 2027 — the company’s first production since its 1975 staging at the Olympia Theatre. Written to an English libretto by W. H. Auden and Chester Kallman, it was first performed at La Fenice in Venice in 1951 and is sung in the original English.
The production is directed by Alexandros Efklidis and conducted by Jacques Lacombe, with dramaturgy by Kharálampos Goyós, sets by Yiannis Katranitsas and costumes by Mayou Trikerioti. Christos Kechris sings Tom Rakewell and Danae Kontora sings Anne Truelove. Dimitri Platanias sings Nick Shadow and the mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili sings Baba the Turk. The production forms part of the company’s 2026/27 season at the Stavros Niarchos Hall within the Renzo Piano–designed Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre in Kallithea, where the Greek National Opera has been based since 2017.
