The Kalamata International Dance Festival
The 32nd Kalamata International Dance Festival runs 17 to 26 July 2026 under artistic director Tzeni Argyriou — opening with Yoann Bourgeois and, for the first time, carrying a performance to the archaeological site of Ancient Messene.
The Kalamata International Dance Festival is an annual contemporary-dance festival held in Kalamata, Greece. Founded in 1995, it has held its place for three decades among Europe’s principal platforms for contemporary dance. The 32nd edition runs from 17 to 26 July 2026 under the artistic direction of Tzeni Argyriou, with its principal stage the Kalamata Dance Megaron.
The 2026 programme opens on 17 and 18 July with the French choreographer Yoann Bourgeois and He Who Falls. Marlene Monteiro Freitas brings a live version of Guintche to the alternative stage on 23 and 24 July. Leïla Ka, Jefta van Dinther, Kalle Nio and Fernando Melo are threaded through the ten days, and the Greek National Opera Ballet closes the run on 25 and 26 July. For the first time in the festival’s history, the archaeological site of Ancient Messene opens to performance: Filipe Lourenço’s Amazigh is danced in situ among the ruins on 22 July.
