Greek Independence Day Military Parade

On 25 March 2025 the armed forces paraded before the Hellenic Parliament at Syntagma, marking the 204th anniversary of the 1821 revolution.

The Greek Independence Day Grand Military Parade is an annual state ceremony held in Athens on 25 March, commemorating the Greek uprising against Ottoman rule that began in 1821. The 2025 parade took place at Syntagma Square before the Hellenic Parliament, marking the 204th anniversary. The parade began at 11:15 and ran to the early afternoon, with units of the Army, Navy and Air Force marching and a formation of aircraft passing overhead. President Konstantinos Tasoulas and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took the salute.

The 25 March date coincides with the Orthodox feast of the Annunciation. The day’s observances in Athens open with a twenty-one-gun salute from Lycabettus at 06:20, the raising of the flag on the Acropolis at eight, and a liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral at ten. The Presidential Guard’s Evzone unit participates in the ceremonial march. Parades are held concurrently in cities and towns across the country.
