The Greek National Opera Verdi Season is a winter opera series held at the Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC) in Kallithea. The 2026 season runs from 26 January to 8 March, with performances on Friday and Sunday evenings. The Greek National Opera was founded in 1939 and moved to the SNFCC in 2017, having previously occupied the Olympia Theatre on Akadimias in central Athens.
The Verdi cycle has returned each January–February since the GNO’s move to the SNFCC, running across nine seasons in successive titles including Aida, Otello, Don Carlos and Falstaff. The Stavros Niarchos Hall seats fourteen hundred and features fan-shaped seating, walnut cladding, and acoustic design by Müller-BBM of Munich.
The smaller Alternative Stage, seating four hundred and fifty, holds a parallel chamber-opera programme through January and February, including early Mozart, post-war Greek commissions, and contemporary work commissioned by the company since its move to the SNFCC.
