The Greek National Opera 2026/27 Season runs at the Stavros Niarchos Hall from 30 October 2026 into July 2027. The programme is set by artistic director Giorgos Koumendakis and supported by a two-year grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The season opens with Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in a staging by William Kentridge, shared with the Glyndebourne Festival and the Metropolitan Opera of New York. Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades follows in December in a new production by Stephen Langridge, conducted by Dmitri Jurowski, and Puccini’s Tosca runs across January and February 2027.
Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress returns to the repertoire in March 2027 after an absence of half a century, staged by Alexandros Efklidis. Robert Wilson’s production of Otello is revived in April and May. In late May the Orchestra, Chorus and Ballet perform Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, two hundred years after the composer’s death. The GNO Ballet presents Valentina Turcu’s choreography on Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire across February and early March.
Puccini’s Madama Butterfly is revived in Hugo de Ana’s production across June and July 2027, and Verdi’s Rigoletto closes the season in July. Sonya Yoncheva and Brian Jagde are among the principals engaged for the season. The company has occupied the Stavros Niarchos Hall since 2017, within Renzo Piano’s cultural centre on the Athenian coast.
