La forza del destino

La forza del destino is Verdi’s opera staged by the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Hall from 26 January to 18 February 2025 across eight performances — the company’s first production of the work since 1998, a gap of twenty-seven years.

Paolo Carignani conducted and Rodula Gaitanou directed, with sets and costumes by George Souglides. The principal cast comprised Dimitri Platanias as Don Carlo, Cellia Costea as Leonora, Marcelo Puente as Don Alvaro and Oksana Volkova as Preziosilla. The Stavros Niarchos Hall is the Greek National Opera’s 1,400-seat principal auditorium, part of Renzo Piano’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre on Faliron Bay, where the company has been based since 2017.
