The European Film Awards

The 39th European Film Awards are presented at the Greek National Opera within the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens on 16 January 2027, the first time the ceremony is held in Southeastern Europe.

The European Film Awards are an annual ceremony presented by the European Film Academy. The 39th edition is held on Saturday 16 January 2027 at the Greek National Opera within the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens — a venue designed by Renzo Piano — marking the first time in the ceremony’s history that it is held in Southeastern Europe.

The European Film Academy organises the edition with the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Centre – Creative Greece, which leads a consortium including the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, and Economy and Finance, the City of Athens, the Region of Attica, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, and the national broadcaster ERT. ERT carries the ceremony live across Europe. On the eve of the ceremony, the Zappeion Megaron hosts the traditional Mayor’s Night, the academy’s reception for its members and guests.

A programme of screenings, residencies and masterclasses runs through 2026 as part of the lead-up, with events at the Thessaloniki and Drama festivals and a Month of Greek Cinema in the autumn.
