Nari Ward: "Until That Day"

The DESTE Foundation annual Hydra commission opens on 23 June 2026 with "Until That Day" by Nari Ward, held in the DESTE Project Space at the former slaughterhouse on Hydra, and runs through 31 October.

The DESTE Project Space Hydra is an annual single-artist commission held each summer in the former municipal slaughterhouse on Hydra, in the Saronic Gulf. It is organised by the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, the foundation of the collector Dakis Joannou. The 2026 commission, “Until That Day” by Nari Ward, opens on 23 June 2026 and remains on view through 31 October.

Nari Ward is a Jamaican-born, New York-based artist known for sculptural installations assembled from found and salvaged material. The former slaughterhouse on the rocks at the edge of the town was granted to DESTE by the Municipality of Hydra in 2008 and has operated as a project space since 2009. Previous commissions have included work by Jeff Koons. Hydra does not permit motor vehicles; the slaughterhouse is reached on foot along the coast path beyond the harbour.
