Antigone is a 2025 staging of Sophocles’ tragedy at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, in the Argolid, directed by the German director Ulrich Rasche. It was given on 27, 28 and 29 June 2025, as the first production of the summer weekends at the theatre. The production was part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival’s seventieth-anniversary season; the festival has run continuously since 1955. It was a co-production of the festival and the National Theatre of Greece.
The staging marked Rasche’s return to Epidaurus after his production of Agamemnon there in 2022 with Munich’s Residenztheater. The theatre was built in the fourth century BC in the Argolid and is renowned for an acoustic that carries an unamplified voice to the highest of its limestone tiers. The Athens Epidaurus Festival reserves the theatre for the classical repertoire on summer weekends.
