The Kalamata International Dance Festival
The 33rd Kalamata International Dance Festival is expected in mid-July 2027 at the Kalamata Dance Megaron, under artistic director Tzeni Argyriou, with its dates yet to be published.
The Kalamata International Dance Festival is the annual contemporary-dance festival of Kalamata, in the Peloponnese, founded in the spring of 1995 on an initiative of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and organised by FARIS, the public benefit enterprise of the municipality. Its principal stage is the Kalamata Dance Megaron, a dedicated dance house the festival holds to be unique in Greece, with a main stage and an alternative stage. The 33rd edition is expected in mid-July 2027.
Across its first 31 years the festival presented more than 330 performances by international companies and 146 by Greek ones, on the Megaron’s two stages and at sites across the city and the wider Peloponnese. Tzeni Argyriou, the choreographer and media artist appointed artistic director in December 2024, takes the programme into a third edition. The Ministry of Culture, the Region of Peloponnese and the Municipality of Kalamata are named among the festival’s organising bodies alongside FARIS.
The three preceding editions each ran ten days: 12 to 21 July 2024, 18 to 27 July 2025, and 17 to 26 July 2026. The last of them opened the archaeological site of Ancient Messene to performance for the first time in the festival’s history. The artistic programme is assembled through an open call the festival announces each September.
