The Aegean Regatta
The Aegean Regatta is the Greek state's own offshore sailing race, held through the islands of the eastern Aegean every August since 2001. The 26th edition is expected in late August 2027, on a course redrawn and published ahead of each running.
The Aegean Regatta is the Greek state’s own offshore sailing race, held through the islands of the eastern Aegean every August since 2001 and organised by the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, in cooperation with the Offshore Sailing Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation. Its course is redrawn for each edition, so the fleet works a different set of island ports every year and the route is published ahead of the running. The 26th edition is expected in late August 2027.
The 25th edition runs from 22 to 28 August 2026 between four ports: Limnia, the port of Volissos on the north-west coast of Chios, then Fournoi and Agathonisi, and finally Marathokampos on Samos, where a coastal race and the closing ceremony end the week. Its three offshore legs measure 65, 33 and 20 nautical miles, with lay days at Fournoi and at Marathokampos between them. The 24th edition took a northern line in August 2025, from Myrina on Lemnos to Mytilene on Lesvos.
Each edition is run by a coordinator club appointed for that year, working with co-organising clubs from Rhodes, Mytilene, Chios and Samos; the Progressive Cultural Social Association of Vrondados holds the role for 2026. Yachts race under ORC Club and ORC International classes. The regatta was founded on the aim of bringing crews to islands and harbours they would not otherwise choose to visit, and the shore programme at each stopover is provided by the host island.
