The Thessaloniki International Film Festival
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Greece's oldest international film festival, runs from 5 to 15 November 2026 at the Olympion on Aristotelous Square and the port warehouses of Thessaloniki, with competition under the Golden Alexander.
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival is Greece’s oldest international film festival, established in September 1960 as the Week of Greek Cinema and held each November in Thessaloniki. The 67th edition runs from 5 to 15 November 2026. Its home ground is the Olympion on Aristotelous Square, a landmark building whose two theatres — the Olympion and the Pavlos Zannas — face down the square towards the Thermaic Gulf.
The programme extends along the waterfront to the port, where restored warehouses hold screening rooms named for filmmakers — Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes, Stavros Tornes. The International Competition carries the Golden Alexander “Theo Angelopoulos”, with €10,000 to the winning feature, and the Silver Alexander for direction. The 66th edition paid tribute to Isabelle Huppert as its guest of honour.
