The Philippi Festival is an annual performing-arts festival held at the ancient theatre cut into the slope below the acropolis of Philippi — a city founded by Philip II in 356 BC — organised by the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kavala (DIPETHE Kavala). The 68th edition ran from 2 July to 7 September 2025 under artistic director Eva Oikonomou-Vamvaka, with further evenings at the Venetian fortress above Kavala and in courtyards in the town.
The 2025 programme was dedicated to the Kavala-born writer Chronis Missios and spanned classical and contemporary theatre, concerts, poetry readings and lectures. Four of its productions travelled to Athens to be hosted by the Greek National Opera from 12 to 16 September 2025. The festival is one of the longest-standing regional festivals in Greece.
