The Athens International Film Festival

The Athens International Film Festival is the Athens Film Society’s annual film festival, held in Athens under the name Opening Nights since September 1995. The 32nd edition is scheduled for early October 2026, spanning national premieres, an international competition judged for the Golden Athena, and tributes and retrospectives across the historic cinemas of the centre.

The 31st edition ran from 1 to 12 October 2025, opening at the Megaron — The Athens Concert Hall — with the Greek premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. The 30th edition opened on 2 October 2024. Screenings are held across the city’s principal cinema venues: the Danaos, the Astor, the Cinobo Opera, and the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre.

The Athens Film Society publishes the full programme in the closing weeks of September.
