The Athens International Film Festival is the Athens Film Society’s annual film festival, held in Athens under the name Opening Nights since September 1995. The 31st edition ran from 1 to 12 October 2025, opening at the Megaron — The Athens Concert Hall — with the Greek premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
Screenings were held across the historic cinemas of the city centre: the Danaos, the Astor, the Cinobo Opera, and the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre. The festival’s central programme is the international competition, judged for the Golden Athena, alongside the documentary competition and the Greek Short Stories section.
The 32nd edition is scheduled for early October 2026, with the full programme published by the Athens Film Society in the closing weeks of September.
