Vasilis Skoulas at the Lycabettus Theatre

The Cretan lyra player and singer Vasilis Skoulas gave the concert "Crete of Yesterday and Today" at the Lycabettus Theatre on Wednesday 11 June 2025.

Vasilis Skoulas at the Lycabettus Theatre was a single concert given on Wednesday 11 June 2025 under the title “Crete of Yesterday and Today”. Skoulas is a lyra player and singer from Anogeia in Crete. The Pancretan Union staged the evening in his honour under the auspices of the Region of Crete, and its president, Rena Vasilaki, presented him with an award for his life’s work.

The singer Pantelis Thalassinos and the Armenian-born oud player Haig Yazdjian shared the stage with Skoulas, joined by the young Cretan singer Eleni Tornesaki. Tatiana Papageorgiou arranged the music for a large ensemble of traditional and modern instruments. The programme ran from the epic song “Digenis” and Vitsentzos Kornaros’s “Erotokritos” to songs heard in the television series “Sasmos”.

A few days before the concert, the Region of Crete marked 65 years of Skoulas’s career with a separate evening at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall. The Lycabettus Theatre is run by Technopolis of the City of Athens, which programmed more than 50 events on the hill for its 2025 season.
