The Camerata New Year Concert is the annual programme of Strauss-family waltzes and polkas with which the Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra opens the year at Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, in the tradition of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert. The 2027 edition is expected in early January; the two preceding editions were each held on 4 January.
The 2026 concert, conducted by Dionysis Grammenos on Sunday 4 January, carried waltzes, polkas and marches by Johann Strauss II and his family, in a programme the hall presented as the music of imperial Vienna. The 2025 concert, under George Petrou in the Christos Lambrakis Hall, set works by Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss, among them the waltzes Wine, Woman and Song, Accelerations, and A Thousand and One Nights.
The Camerata performs as the Megaron’s orchestra in residence, with a season that includes concerts on period instruments. The New Year concert stands at the head of the hall’s winter programme, in the first week of January.
