The pianist Daniil Trifonov gave a solo recital at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on 19 July 2025, within the Athens Epidaurus Festival’s seventieth season. The programme comprised Tchaikovsky’s Piano Sonata in C-sharp minor and a concert suite from “The Sleeping Beauty”, six Chopin waltzes, and Samuel Barber’s Piano Sonata in E-flat minor.

Trifonov was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow at the age of twenty, a year after receiving a prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The juror Martha Argerich stated of him at the Chopin Competition that “he has everything and more”. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a second-century AD Roman theatre on the southern slope of the Acropolis; the recital took place among the last seasons before the theatre closed for a multi-year restoration.
