Stavros Xarchakos: Journey to the Light

Stavros Xarchakos brought his Journey to the Light programme to Lycabettus Theatre in September 2026: a folk evening with Giannis Kotsiras and Iro Saia on 5 September, and a love-song evening with Babis Stokas and Iro Saia on 30 September.

Journey to the Light (Taxidi sto Fos) is a concert programme designed by the Greek composer Stavros Xarchakos, and in September 2026 it came to Lycabettus Theatre in Athens as two separate evenings. Both belonged to the autumn season of the hill theatre, which Technopolis runs for the City of Athens.

The first concert, on Saturday 5 September, was subtitled In a Folk Universe. Giannis Kotsiras and Iro Saia sang the composer’s folk songs, with Xarchakos conducting, and the evening sold out. The programme had earlier toured archaeological sites across Greece and played two nights at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in 2025. METLEN has supported it since its first concert.

The second concert, In a Love Universe, was set for Wednesday 30 September with Babis Stokas and Iro Saia. It was the first time Stokas shared a stage with Xarchakos. Bob Katsionis played electric guitar in new arrangements, and the Ichodrasi percussion group of Nikos Touliatos joined the orchestra. The same group performed with Xarchakos at the opening ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
