On Grikos Bay, the sheltered bay on the east coast of Patmos, an Italian kitchen cooks at the water. Barolo Patmos is one of the two signature restaurants at Patmos Aktis, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, and its room is open-air, facing the sunset over Grikos Bay. The cooking is Italian, the tables face the water, and dinner is the only service.
The restaurant arrived by collaboration. On 16 April 2026 Patmos Aktis announced an exclusive collaboration with the Italian restaurant Barolo, for the summer season that followed. The taverna next door has stood on the same water for years, with a long gastronomic tradition behind it, and the hotel added the Italian room without moving it.
The room at the water
The light on this stretch of coast stays on the sea until late in the afternoon. The room is built in the open and overlooks the sunset, and it stands on the beachfront inside the resort, along the same shore as the hotel’s other two kitchens.
The hotel’s own framing is Italian culinary heritage under the light of the Dodecanese. In practice that means Italian recipes and an Aegean evening, in a room the hotel calls elegant and sets in the open air. The address is the resort’s own: Grikos Bay, Patmos Island, 85500.
What the kitchen sends
The menu divides into four: pizzeti, Italian cold cuts, seafood pasta, grilled signatures. Pizzeti are small pizzas, made by hand here. The cold cuts are hand-selected and cut fine, the pasta turns on seafood, and the grilled plates are the ones the kitchen puts its name to. Classic Italian technique and the quality of the raw materials carry the menu, which the hotel sums up as authentic flavours and premium ingredients.
The wine list sets Italian bottles alongside international labels, chosen to sit with the plates.
Beside the old taverna
Patmos Aktis kept Plefsis when Barolo arrived. The old taverna stands on the same water and serves home-cooked Greek dishes, fresh fish and seafood, traditional appetisers and a glass of ouzo to go with them, with Greek wines and the same sunset across Grikos Bay. Its recipes come mainly from the Dodecanese and the local kitchen, built on fresh and seasonal ingredients, and it serves lunch as well as dinner, with a casual dress code. The two are the property’s signature restaurants, Greek at one and Italian at the other, along one shore, so a guest can have the fish on one night and the pasta on the next without leaving the bay.
A third room, CIELO Daylight, opens for breakfast and lunch, with a Continental menu of brunch, lunch and light dishes and the same view of Grikos Bay. That makes three kitchens on the property and three cuisines: Italian at Barolo Patmos, Continental at CIELO Daylight, Greek at Plefsis Tavern. Breakfast is served there, and the hotel’s buffet runs from freshly baked bread and pastries to homemade cheese, organic eggs, handmade pies, seasonal fruit and traditional Patmian recipes, many of its ingredients produced on Patmos.
Before you go
Barolo Patmos serves dinner only, so lunch on this shore means one of the other two rooms. The dress code is smart casual, and reservations are taken on +30 22470 35036.
Who is this for
A party that wants a long evening at one table, and anyone staying on Grikos who would like an Italian night among the Greek ones. The setting is open air at the water, with the sun going down over the bay, and the service is an unhurried one. Anyone who likes to choose a bottle first and eat around it will be at home here, and so will a couple marking an occasion. The four lines the kitchen works in give a table enough to order across and share.
