Cavo Tagoo Santorini stands on the caldera side near Imerovigli, Santorini, and looks west over the Aegean to the sunset. The house sits at the northern edge of the village, clear of the crowds at Fira and Oia but within reach of both. Imerovigli is built on the highest point of the volcanic crater, about 300 metres above the water, which is the plain reason the views from this stretch of the rim run steeper than the ones further along it.

There are 13 suites, in eight published categories. The building was completed in 2016, as a renovation, by Liakos and Associates Architects for Aegean Coast S.A., to a brief of 13 rooms. It is the sister property of Cavo Tagoo Mykonos, and the architects kept the original Cavo Tagoo philosophy as they worked.

The building

Liakos and Associates Architects worked from the island itself. The volumes step down the site so that the building continues the ground it stands on, with fragments set about the plot that look as though they came up out of the lava. The whitewashed Cycladic frame is set against a volcanic palette: black natural stone, burnt wood and copper for the shades of hot lava still flowing. Traditional Cycladic form carries modern finishes on top of it.

The suites

Every published category carries either a hot tub or a private pool on its terrace, and each is published as an indoor area and an outdoor one. The smallest is the Junior Suite with Hot Tub, at 18 sq m indoors to 21 outdoors. The largest is the Cavo Tagoo Suite with Pool, 41 sq m indoors and 78 sq m outdoors. The premier category is the Diamond Suite with Pool, 44 sq m indoors to 65 outdoors, with a private pool over the caldera and an indoor hot tub. The Maisonette with Hot Tub gives the most indoor space of any category, at 55 sq m.

The table

Which kitchen takes the room depends on the month: Roka, the Azumi group’s robatayaki house, in season; the hotel’s own Mediterranean restaurant otherwise. Robatayaki is Japanese grill cooking, and Roka holds the restaurant address at Imerovigli under its own name. Its 2026 season opened there on 15 May, alongside the brand’s returns to Bodrum and Mallorca. Out of season the hotel’s own restaurant serves daily from noon to 11pm, on Mediterranean dishes. A private chef, in-suite dining and celebration dinners are arranged on request, by season.

The water

Guests swim in a heated infinity pool with floating sunbeds, 11am to 6pm, lounge after 7pm. The temperature varies by season, and the sunbeds sit between the restaurant and the lounge. The water is not closed to the island either: a limited number of day passes run from noon to 5pm, booked in advance, and a pass covers a sunbed, pool access, towels and showers, with the pass amount standing as a minimum spend redeemable against food and drink. Sunbeds are reserved through the hotel.

The spa

The spa treats in one private treatment room, guests aged 16 and over, and the list runs through massages, facials and wellness therapies. A fitness room is kept for hotel guests.

Arriving

Santorini Airport is 15 to 20 minutes by car, and Athinios port 20 to 25. The hotel’s own concierge arranges private transfers, and cars, ATVs, scooters and chauffeurs with them. The same desk arranges private yacht and helicopter charters, VIP transfers and special-occasion planning, and it books sunset cruises, wine tastings and island sightseeing.

Who is this for

It suits couples before anyone else: most categories are drawn for two, with the Cavo Tagoo Suite taking three and the Maisonette four, and cots come on request for families. Small pets are taken with prior notice, by suite category. The mood is barefoot and unhurried: whitewashed terraces stepping down the cliff, the volcano on the far rim, and the sunset squarely in front of you. Breakfast is à la carte each morning. Check-in is 2pm, check-out 11am.
