The Way We Live Now is the first contemporary group exhibition mounted by the George Economou Collection from its own holdings, co-curated by Hilton Als and Ann Philbin; it runs at Marousi from 20 June 2026 to 12 March 2027.
The Way We Live Now is a group exhibition of contemporary art at the George Economou Collection in Athens, open from 20 June 2026 to 12 March 2027. It is the first contemporary group show the collection has mounted, and every work in it is drawn from its own holdings.
It is co-curated by Hilton Als, the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic and contributing writer at The New Yorker, and Ann Philbin, director emeritus of the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the 2025 Getty Prize winner, working with Skarlet Smatana, the collection’s director. The show is arranged in three sections — Intimacy, Politics and Being — and the artists include David Hammons, Jenny Saville, Charles Ray, Lorna Simpson, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Katharina Fritsch, Henry Taylor, Victor Man, Lisa Brice and Ellen Gallagher. A catalogue with texts by the curators and the artists is published with it.
The collection occupies a converted building at 80 Kifisias Avenue in Marousi, in the northern suburbs of Athens, and is the private holding of the shipowner George Economou.
