Clean Monday at the Stavros Niarchos Park

On Clean Monday, 3 March 2025, the Stavros Niarchos Park kept the Koulouma — kites over the Great Lawn and a panorama of Greek song and dance curated by Lambros Liavas.

Clean Monday at the Stavros Niarchos Park is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre’s annual Koulouma — the open-air feast that marks the opening of Great Lent, held on Kathara Deftera across the Great Lawn in Kallithea. The 2025 edition took place on 3 March, with kite-flying on the lawn in the traditional observance practised throughout Greece.

The programme ran from noon to three. The ethnomusicologist Lambros Liavas curated and presented a panorama of Greek musical and dance traditions on the lawn. The event was held free of charge through a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre is a 170,000-square-metre campus completed by Renzo Piano in 2016 on the former Faliro racecourse above the Saronic Gulf. It was given to the Greek state by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and is home to the Greek National Opera and the National Library of Greece.
