Pina Bausch: Kontakthof
The National Theatre of Greece and the Pina Bausch Foundation will stage Kontakthof with a Greek cast of 22 on the Main Stage of the Ziller Building, from 9 October to 22 November 2026.
Kontakthof is a dance theatre piece by the German choreographer Pina Bausch, and the National Theatre of Greece will stage it with the Pina Bausch Foundation on the Main Stage of the Ziller Building in Athens. The run opens on Friday 9 October 2026 and closes on Sunday 22 November 2026, with 21 performances. It is the second season of a revival the theatre first staged in December 2025.
Bausch created the piece for the Wuppertal Opera House, where it was first performed on 9 December 1978, with sets and costumes by Rolf Borzik. The Athens revival has a cast of 22 Greek performers aged 21 to 55, chosen for this production. Its artistic directors are Josephine Ann Endicott, a member of the original 1978 cast, and Daphnis Kokkinos, a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal and Bausch’s assistant since 1993. Anne Martin, also from the original cast, and Scott Jennings are the Foundation’s rehearsal directors.
Greece first saw the piece in September 1988, when Tanztheater Wuppertal performed it at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The score draws on music by Charlie Chaplin, Anton Karas, Juan Llossas, Nino Rota and Jean Sibelius, among others. A performance lasts 2 hours and 50 minutes, with one interval.
