Shaped by Earth
Kalfayan Galleries opened the group exhibition Shaped by Earth in Kolonaki on 27 February 2025, a survey of clay as an artistic medium.
Shaped by Earth is a group exhibition that ran at Kalfayan Galleries in Kolonaki, Athens, from 27 February to 29 March 2025. The show examined clay as a medium of artistic creation, placing the question of whether ceramic tradition serves the contemporary artist as inspiration or constraint.
The exhibition brought together historic Greek artists, international modern figures and living practitioners: the sculptor Yannoulis Halepas and the painters Yannis Tsarouchis and Alekos Fassianos, alongside Picasso, the American ceramicist Peter Voulkos, Sarah Crowner and Konstantin Kakanias. Kalfayan Galleries was founded in 1995 and occupies a glass-fronted room at 11 Haritos Street in Kolonaki. The gallery has worked across Greece, the Balkans and the wider eastern Mediterranean since its founding.
