Jonas Kaufmann at the Megaron
The tenor Jonas Kaufmann sang a gala of arias with the Athens State Orchestra in the Christos Lambrakis Hall on 9 February 2025.
Jonas Kaufmann at the Megaron was a gala recital given on Sunday 9 February 2025 in the Christos Lambrakis Hall of the Athens Concert Hall. Kaufmann, a German tenor regarded as among the most sought-after of his generation, performed with the Athens State Orchestra under the German conductor Jochen Rieder.
The programme drew from the operatic repertoire with which Kaufmann is most identified: arias from Bizet’s Carmen, Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, Ponchielli’s La Gioconda and Puccini’s Tosca, alongside operetta melodies by Lehár and Kálmán and film scores by Ennio Morricone and Hans Zimmer. The Megaron opened in 1991 on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and is the principal concert hall of Athens; the Christos Lambrakis Hall is its largest auditorium, seating some two thousand, and is administered by the Friends of Music Society.
