Mythos is a puppet-theatre work by Yiorgos Karakantzas drawing on the Iliad and the Odyssey, given its premiere at the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera on 21, 22 and 23 February 2025. The piece uses puppetry, shadow play and projected image in place of text. It is an international co-production with the French company Anima Théâtre.
Anima Théâtre is the company Karakantzas founded with Claire Latarget in Marseille in 2004; the 2025 premiere coincided with the company’s twentieth anniversary. The Alternative Stage is the experimental wing of the Greek National Opera within the Renzo Piano–designed Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre on the Faliro coast, which has housed the company since 2016.
