The EMST Summer Openings
EMST opens three exhibitions on 11 June 2026: a George Lappas survey curated by Daphne Vitali, a permanent-collection rehang titled South by Southeast directed by Katerina Gregos, and Margarita Athanasiou's Voices in the Screening Theatre.
EMST, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, opened three exhibitions on 11 June 2026 at its premises in the former Fix brewery on Syngrou Avenue, a 1957 building by Takis Zenetos. The three shows are George Lappas. Spotlight, South by Southeast: Re-Orienting the Collection, and Voices.
George Lappas. Spotlight, on Floor 2, is a survey of the sculptor George Lappas curated by Daphne Vitali. Lappas was born in Egypt in 1950, moved to Greece in 1958, and served as professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1992. The show runs from 11 June to 8 November 2026, drawn from the EMST collection with selected loans. South by Southeast: Re-Orienting the Collection is a rehang of the permanent collection by Katerina Gregos, the museum’s director since 2021, gathering fifty artists from more than twenty countries. Margarita Athanasiou’s Voices is held in the Screening Theatre on the minus-one floor and runs until 22 November 2026.
