Teodor Currentzis and the Utopia Orchestra

Teodor Currentzis and the Utopia Orchestra performed at the Megaron on 14 and 15 November 2025 — the ensemble's first appearance in Greece — in a programme of Wagner's Ring in Lorin Maazel's orchestral distillation.

Teodor Currentzis and the Utopia Orchestra gave two concerts at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, on 14 and 15 November 2025 — the ensemble’s first appearance in Greece. The programme was The Ring without Words, the seventy-minute purely orchestral synthesis that conductor Lorin Maazel drew from Wagner’s four-opera Ring cycle in 1987, performed without a sung note.

Utopia is an international ensemble founded by Currentzis in 2022, assembled from players across Europe and run as an independent touring body rather than a resident company. Currentzis, who was born in Athens, leads it alongside his musicAeterna choir and orchestra. The two evenings were programmed by the Athens Concert Hall Organisation on the Alexandra Trianti stage within the Megaron’s 2025–26 season.
